The competition kicked off after Yang Pengkai, a student from the bet365.com of Advanced Translation and Interpretation, gave an English speech show "Chasing Dreams", and the honorary president Sun Tianyi gave the opening speech. He expressed warm congratulations on this competition and discussed the important impact of speech on the learning of English by non-foreign language major students.
The speech competition has been selected at all levels. A total of 26 contestants from the 2015, 2016 and 2017 classes from each department and 6 debate teams advanced to the bet365.com. Li Chunping, the No. 1 contestant in the 2017 class, took "Amazing China" as the theme and elaborated on her unique insights from three aspects: my country's economy, science and technology and cultural development. Her standard pronunciation and sufficient arguments won unanimous praise from the audience.
In the debate, contestants from both sides expressed their opinions and competed fiercely, showing their solid professional skills and tacit teamwork. With the theme of "adversity brings forth talents", the 2017 positive debaters elaborated on the importance of adversity in tempering one's own will and demonstrating one's own integrity. They were calm, stable and resourceful, and received warm applause from the audience.
After the game, Zhang Bingjie, a full-time teacher at the English bet365.com, commented on the game. She said that this debate helped create an English learning atmosphere on campus and mobilize students' enthusiasm for learning English. It not only improved the foreign language proficiency of Spanish translation students, but also further exercised everyone's thinking ability.
