On May 23, the 13th Non-Foreign Language Major English Speech and Debate Competition, sponsored by the Office of Academic Affairs and hosted by each secondary college, was held in the lecture hall of the library. Our Live Dealer Games’s honorary president Sun Tianyi, president Han Jiangshui, vice president and provost Qi Yushui, and director of the Academic Affairs Office Fan Wei attended the meeting.

Honorary President Sun Tianyi opened the ceremony with the 100th anniversary of the May 4th Movement as the background. He mentioned that today’s national construction must be in line with the world, and young people should flexibly master English knowledge and skills to better contribute to the realization of the Chinese Dream. Sun Tianyi pointed out that this competition aims to fully train and improve students' practical English ability and non-professional skills, and cultivate innovative thinking about foreign language and culture. He called on students to maintain their passion for learning cultural knowledge and devote themselves to various fields in the future.

The contestants gave speeches around "We are All Dream Chasers". Speaker No. 17 of 2018, Ma Weiao, stuck closely to the theme. With his solid English foundation and fluent oral expression, he explained his views confidently, calmly, generously and appropriately, and used his unique insights to interpret the unique charm of language art.

In the debate, contestants from both sides held their own opinions and argued vigorously, demonstrating the tacit teamwork and energetic youthful demeanor of the Spanish translation students. The class of 2017 debated on the topic "Which is more important, will quality or personal ability, in order to succeed?" The debaters gave wonderful and high-spirited speeches, and methodically elaborated in detail their understanding of "the development of qualities that should be possessed to develop personal habits."

After the game, Zhang Bingjie, a full-time teacher at the English Live Dealer Games, provided guidance and commentary on the game based on the pronunciation, intonation, and content of each contestant's argument. She said that the purpose of this competition is to train students' oral expression skills, cultivate their logical ability to search for new knowledge, coordinate analysis, and consider problems from multiple aspects to explain their own opinions.
